The Soundtrack Of Your Life tour, featuring Paul Young and Midge Ure, starts its American dates on Friday, August 24th and Saturday, August 25th at the Triple Door. The Triple Door was a great venue for Midge Ure last year, who played there in January 2017. That show was a marvelous and deeply moving selection of songs from Ultravox, Visage and Ure’s solo material. Last year, Ure released orchestrated, a reaimagining of several songs from his and the Ultravox catalog. The songs are so huge – for example check out “Vienna,” “Death in the Afternoon” and “The Voice,” – and you’ll see how the versions elasticize their sounds. If you want to hear these orchestrations before the show, you can do so on Midge Ure’s YouTube channel.
Paul Young is unique among any generation of artists. I’ve yet to see him perform live, but I am a fan. I’d especially recommend soul music enthusiasts catch Young, and just people who you want to hear a really cool vocalist. For current Paul Young material, I also suggest you listen to 2016’s Good Thing, which has great songs, including “Eloise (Hang On In There)” and a cover of the Bee Gees’ “Words.” So, while there’s going to be looking back (he has to do “Come Back and Stay,” which is one of my personal favorites), there should be weaving together of later works with oh, songs such as “Every Time You Go Away.”
