Through the Looking Glass: The Burlesque Alice in Wonderland @ the Triple Door, 4/8/15
Show Review & Photos by Dagmar
Alice in Wonderland is one of the best things ever. I don’t know why, but I never get tired of the story. Maybe it was initially because the main character is female, and that really appealed to me. There just weren’t that many stories involving female leads for so many years, and Alice, though she may not be the most interesting character, is attractive as the observer. Anyway, there are many fantastic characters in the story to attract anybody. It endures.
And it endures in the form of burlesque, more specifically, in Seattle, a production called Through the Looking Glass: The Burlesque Alice in Wonderland. I had my first opportunity of seeing the show (it was also there last year) earlier this month, and enjoyed its creativity. It’s full of jazz, singing, dancing, flirtation and a severe competition between the White Queen and the Red Queen. Another highlight was Lily Verlaine’s Caterpillar and its development. Oh, and the Luminous Pariah’s fierce Cheshire Cat rocked my world.
