Stone Temple Pilots played to a very enthusiastic crowd at the Paramount on Wednesday, April 8th. They sounded great and Chester Bennington had terrific stage presence. The question for most who hadn’t seen STP live in a while was, how would the band sound without Scott Weiland? The answer: terrific.
The real question for most was, are they still STP?
Many icons have experienced lineup changes and done extremely well. Ford Mustang, Harley Davidson, and AC/DC have all gone through visible and stark changes over the years and come out the other side stronger than ever. There is no reason Stone Temple Pilots can’t do the same. Bennington is his own man and very talented in his own right.
The show really was amazing. Bennington and the boys had a ton of energy and they sounded really tight. The guitars wailed and Bennington controlled the entire stage like he owned it. STP seemed to have that chemistry that most bands strive for.
One note I need to highlight was when two very young fans caught STP’s eye and Bennington invited the young men on stage for a group selfie. The audience ate that up and cheered at the top of their lungs.
