Meat Puppets are here tonight, with Cass McCombs, for a show at Neumos! The prolific, Phoenix, Arizona-based rock band (they’ve pretty much released an album every couple of years since their debut, Meat Puppets, in 1982), have remained a respected and excellent band throughout their inception. Some people may not have heard of them until Nirvana famously covered “Lake of Fire,” off Meat Puppets II. I recommend their set because there will be fast guitar playing and the voice of Curt Kirkwood. I sure like his voice. The fact they have a song called “Rat Farm,” and that they named their new album Rat Farm, makes me love them even more.
As co-headliner is Cass McCombs, a gentle-voiced artist from California. On Domino Records’ roster (as of 2007), McCombs produced his latest album, Big Wheel and Others. The only musician I’ve seen who has lyrics to a few songs translated into German on his web page (http://www.cassmccombs.com/lyrics/), McCombs is striking and should put on a moving show. Also, anybody who got the wonderful Karen Black to sing “Brighter!” is awesome.
