The second day of Capitol Hill Block Party had me catching shows in several venues, including the Mainstage, Neumos, Barboza and the specially kitted out Caffe Vita Bean Room. First up was California’s Poolside, who had a big audience at the Mainstage. The group played some great disco & R&B music, which went over well with the young crowd. After Poolside I headed to Barboza, where Future Shock, a Seattle synth (& more disco-esque) band had an afternoon slot. The band wore plague masks. I guess that’s their thing. I enjoyed this band as well, but I couldn’t catch all their set because I had to hurry over to see Katie Kate at the Vera Stage. Katie Kate was totally on. Totally.
After a break, I saw Seattle’s Country Lips, a country band who had a very large following. The bazillion members in the band seemed to be the real thing with their own stamp on the genre. By pure chance, I discovered Pillar Point was doing one of the End’s shows at the Bean Room. I waited around until they let us in, and saw one of my favorite bands play a smashing set while surrounded by giant bags of coffee beans. Fun stuff.
