Damage is Arizona quartet Jimmy Eat World‘s latest – and very strong album – but that’s not what they’ll inflict on fans this Monday, July 15th at Showbox SoDo. Okay, maybe they’ll inflect some damage. Why not? I’m betting instead the band will fuse with the audience’s emotions; after all, the song “Damage” deals with the concept of connection. I’m listening to the album at this moment, enjoying “I Will Steal You Back.”
So, is their new material a little mellower at times? Yes, my impression is that it goes back somewhat to 1999’s Clarity. That’s not to say there aren’t times where the album doesn’t rock. Monday’s show will rock. I’m just saying that the rapid-fire jangling guitar is mostly gone. It’s up to you what you prefer. Songs in that manner will certainly still be on the concert’s playlist, but right now I prefer the new Jimmy Eat World. That could change tomorrow.
Doors open at 7 PM, and show is all ages. For more details and to get your tix head over to the Showbox’s event page.
