I had the gracious opportunity to shoot Jack Johnson’s show at the Sleep Country Amphitheater in Ridgefield, WA (20 miles from Portland, Oregon) this past Sunday. Jack had played The Gorge Amphitheater the night before, but due to a scheduling conflict, I wasn’t able to make it to that show and went with the later. This also gave me an opportunity to check out the other amphitheater venue located in Washington.
I have to admit, I am a huge Jack Johnson fan, so getting the opportunity to shoot one of his shows was a dream come true. The atmosphere at a Jack Johnson show has to be seen to believe. It’s one of the most mellow and laid back shows I have been to this year. Everything and everyone was just peaceful and chill. G-Love and Special Sauce opened for them and I found out that it was G-Love’s birthday so you could hear various chants of “Happy Birthday G-Love” throughout the crowd. Then came the man himself. Words can’t describe how amazing Jack is live. Listening to his records is one thing, but seeing him live is something totally different. The way he connected with the crowd is amazing. I was also surprised to see many kids in the crowd who were singing the words to his songs.
Overall, I have to say this had to be one of the best shows I have seen this year. I can’t really describe in words how much I enjoyed this, it’s something all of you need to experience before you die.
