Japan’s Mono and Scotland’s Twilight Sad played Neumos last week and put me in a trance. What a great pairing of bands. You might not think of them together immediately, but they share an intensity and beautiful swarming type of hum. Twilight Sad singer James Graham is absolutely one of my favorites – he’s got a voice that cuts right through me. I was warned about the volume these bands would produce and yes, it was loud. Oddly enough though it never seemed excessive. Deep into Mono’s set the volume pitched higher, and it emphasized rather than diminished the tune (this can happen – it can just be noise with no difference).
