My first Vince Mira experience came just last Friday at Neumos. As I walked in, I could have sworn I heard a 30 year-old Johnny Cash celebrating his own 78th birthday by playing a few tunes for Seattle. But it was 18 year-old Vince Mira playing his own songs as well as a few Cash covers for his 3rd annual Johnny Cash Spectacular. I won’t beat a dead horse by discussing Mira’s obvious influences but I will say, the kid is good. On this night, Mira was joined by a few special guests who also performed, including Kirk Huffington of Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Marshall Scott Warner. Not to mention Billy Joe Huels of The Dusty 45s, who came out for the encore to play his flaming trumpet on Mira’s spanish version of “Ring of Fire”. I was glad to have my camera on hand to snap a few photos of the event.
