Dear Madly in Dub: I love your drummer, Michelle Tomyuk. She’s playing a tabla in many of your songs I have listened to and in these super pix Nate Watters took. Nate introduced me to this band just the other night and thank you, Nate! You may wonder what the big deal is about a tabla drum, so here I go: It’s not used that often in western music. It’s generally used in Hindustani music and rocks in a different way than any other drum. You play it with your hands, as opposed to the other famous Persian/Indian drum, the dhol drum, which you hit with sticks (and heard in Bhangra music).
