CD Review: Christmas with Weezer by Weezer

Christmas with Weezer was released last Christmas but just because something came out a while ago won’t keep me from reviewing it. Some day I will review a really old CD. Why not?

Weezer’s Christmas CD features six songs you’ll be familiar with: We Wish You a Merry Christmas, O Come All Ye Faithful, O Holy Night, the First Noel, Hark! the Herald Angel Sings and Silent Night. All songs are given a peppy Weezer spin and I have added them all to my Christmas music listening. I have been known to listen to Christmas music at all times of year and so when one of my favorite bands does Christmas music I can’t resist.O Holy Night is probably my top Christmas song as it’s especially dramatic: Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! There’s also a sweet guitar solo in this and the First Noel. Rivers Cuomo’s voice sits earnestly with the Christmas lyrics. You try singing O Holy Night and you might not sound very good – Cuomo does sound good. We Wish You a Merry Christmas comes off as the rather punkish song it should be played as (Oh bring us a figgy pudding!) with the backing vocals, We won’t go until we get some. I always felt that song was pretty thuggish – carolers coming to your door and demanding food – figgy pudding to be specific.
